Going to London!

My husband and I will be heading to London for our honeymoon (we're going to Paris, too).  London has a few petite-friendly stores (at least petite in height - many places start at a UK size 6P, which is more or less a really big 0P/small 2P) other than Top Shop (which I will definitely check out, of course) and will post about them on this blog.  Also, look for restaurant write ups and other things over at DelectablyChic!

Moi-Meme's New Collection - The Shirts

As I said in an earlier post, Moi-Meme has a beautiful Spring/Summer collection. And they have shirts now too! There are five to pick from, including the following:

Cairo Short-Sleeved (I personally like this one!)

Shirts are available in both colours and solids and range in price between $95 US and $135, depending on the fabric, print, colour and sleeve length. According to the site, the shirts have a silky feel and are machine-washable.

I found this really old post from 2006 while surfing the net for topics. She thinks we should print out cards saying something along the lines of "You'd be looking at a credit card instead of this card if your store carried anything in my size." There isn't need to spend a lot of money printing them - there are plenty of tear-away business cards you can get from places like Staples you can purchase and then print them out on your home computer.

They announced a plus size model search winner....what about petite?

Recently, Canada's Lou Lou magazine, along with several plus size stores and a modelling agency with a plus division held a plus size model search, where a contestant was chosen by a panel of judges. She won a modelling contract with the agency, plus the chance of appearing in a campaign as well as the magazine (Prospere Magazine has a more detailed article on the search). But what about petites? Sure, Tyra Banks is hosting a petite cycle in the fall, but will the cycle actually draw attention to petite issues? OR, will Tyra just run the show like any other cycle? What we really need is a petite clothing company or the petite division of a misses company to hold a search of its own. The petite issue is never discussed, and often even dismissed. And that needs to be changed.

J.Crew Looks for December

Not much has arrived in terms of petite sized clothes, but there are a lot of gorgeous petite outfits on sale! They include:

Petite silk chiffon Sophia dress (select colours are $69.99!)

Petite stadium-cloth Bridget coat

Petite striped Annette blouse

Petite Francie skirt (the colours selling at $19.99 are all gone)

J.Crew also has short length jeans (they aren't really petite sizes, just shorter than regular length, at 31"). They start at a size 26 and go up to 32. Matchstick, Bootcut and Boy jeans come in short sizes. Also, Matchstick starts at size 25.

Fernanda Carneiro Dress on Privileged!

Wow! One of the dresses from Fernanda Carneiro's Spring 2008 collection was featured on a recent episode of Privileged! The dress was worn by Rose (Lucy Kate Hale) on the episode "All about the Have and Have Nots" You can see pictures on the Fernanda Carneiro Designs Facebook Group.

The dress was also featured in Petite Fashionista Presents, which was held back in June.

For UK readers: Interesting pieces from Next

I lived in the UK for a couple of months back in 2001 when I was studying abroad. During that time, I discovered that the UK had more to choose from when it came to petite clothes - 2001 was just before Banana Republic launched its petite line, which would remain unavailable in Canadian stores until 2004. As I've said in earlier posts, the UK seems to have more choice when it comes to younger petites - many more stores seem to sell ungrandmotherly clothes. Next, like Banana and Ann Taylor Loft, seem to be the most appropriate for a twentysomething woman who has an office job.

Here are a few of outfits that I like from their latest collection:

Blouse and pencil skirt

Origami blouse and grey stripe trousers

Watercolour print occasion dress

Cotton belted printed tunic (this looks a tad bit like something from BCBG though)

Next is also good news for petites looking for pants at a shorter length. Typical petite Next pants (ummm, I mean trousers) have an inseam of 27 1/2". This means that many petites may be looking at regular length pants if they are wearing heels. As for sizing, don't forget to subtract four numbers to get North American sizes.
