Next Issue of Prospere Magazine: Cynthia Meets Paige Adams-Geller!

I had the opportunity to meet Paige Adams-Geller of Paige Premium Denim on Saturday as a part of an event at Holt Renfrew, Bloor Street. I'll have a full write-up of the event in Prospere Magazine in the issue out tomorrow morning, but meanwhile, here's a picture of the jeans I got!

The jeans are the Pico low-rise boot cut in the petite length (approximately 31"), size 24.

"Splurgy" jeans often come in petites, but why not "regular" pants?

L-R: Mavi, Paige Premium Denim, 7 for all Mankind

if Mavi, Paige Premium Denim and Seven can make shorter length jeans for grown-up women, why can't non-denim brands of the equivilant price point make petite clothes? Is this another way of saying that petite women can't be taken seriously? Most petite women need work clothes too, and would prefer not to spend $30 on alterations (I know, I know, Paige's inseam is like 31", totally NOT "true" petite, but still...) Designerse and manufacturers must not think we need anything serious and that we should be glad that they even make jeans with an inseam shorter than 32". After all, in the world of fashion, grown-up women who're say, 5'2" don't exist, right?

Why do they always make us wear heels?

Suze Yalof Schwartz from Glamour magazine does a monthly video giving advice to women on what looks best for their shape. A recent video, about jeans, showed what works and doesn't work on different body types. For the petite body (which she only showed the one kind...you know, short and slim...), Suze suggested straight jeans, such as the Citizens Long and Lean jeans worn by 4'11 Gina in the video. The jeans are okay, but one thing bugged me. Gina's shoes. They were so massively high (she probably had to, since the inseam looked so massively long)! As a fellow short girl, I completely understand the need to add height, but those shoes looked DANGEROUS! Short women shouldn't have to feel that they need to wear anything like that. Heels are good, but not good all the time.

I also wish that magazines recommend petite sizes more often (or at all!)! I know that it's more difficult to do so for print, since things are done in advance, but articles, pictures and videos posted online should aren't usually done that far ahead. They should know what comes in petites and what doesn't by that time!

Next Exit...Kingston

I spent part of my weekend in Kingston, Ontario, home of my alma mater, Queen's University. I didn't have too much time to shop (I was there less than 24 hours, and much of it was spent navigating my way around campus, where much of it is under contruction (they are building a new student centre, which won't open for a few more years.), but I did manage to stop by Next Exit, located on 202 Princess Street (phone: 613-545-1311). The sign (which you can see above) caught my eye. They were selling jeans that fit petite girls! Yay! So off I went into the store to see what they had. As usual, there weren't too many with 30" inseams, but I found a lovely pair of Mavi jeans, a brand from Istanbul. I tried them in three sizes, since you never know. 26" was way too big, felt like I was wearing those vanity sized zeros-LOL! 24" was a little snug and actually looked SHORT! Ha! So yes, I ended up buying the 25" jeans, which were $78 before taxes. I never thought that I could find a pair of jeans that FIT, looked good and could be worn in the deep heat of summer in KINGSTON!

So the next time you're in Kingston, be sure to visit Next Exit on Princess Street!

CynthiaC, happy after finding a pair of lightweight summer jeans.

The jeans: Style: Lindy. Waist: 25 Inseam: 30"

Mavi jeans comes in a wide range of sizes. In the product search part of their website, you can find jeans in your size based on measurements from a drop-down menu. The smallest waist size listed is 24"and the largest, a 40". Shortest inseam is 28" and longest, 36".

Mavi jeans can be bought from their online store, at Mavi stores (in Montreal, Vancouver, New York, Berlin, Frankfrut and Beyoglu) and many other stores that sell jeans. Over the Rainbow in Toronto also carries Mavi.
