As we know, two of the five Best Actress nominees for this year's Academy Awards are petite. Julie Christie is 5'2", according to IMDB and Ellen Page is 5'1". But how tall are the other actresses?
Marion Cotillard, who is nominated for playing the very, very petite Edith Piaf (4'9"!!!) in La Vie en rose (known as La Môme in the Francophone communities) is 5'6 1/2"
Cate Blanchette, nominated for her role in Elizabeth, the Golden Age, is 5'8 1/2"
Laura Linney, nominated for her role in The Savages, is 5'7"
But what about the Best Supporting Actress? How tall are these ladies? Out of the five nominees, only Cate Blanchette (also nominated for I'm Not There) and Tilda Swinton have their heights listed on IMDB. And both are NOT PETITE.
But will a petite actress win this year? Petite actresses have captured the this category for the past two years (Helen Mirren, who won last year is 5'4" and Reese Witherspoon, who won in 2006 is 5'2" or 5'2 1/2" (IMDB lists her at 5'2 1/2", but she is often reported to be 5'2")) According to many, Julie Christie did a wonderful job playing a woman with Alzheimer's in Away From Her (which, by the way, was directed by the petite (and Canadian), Sarah Polley (5'2"). Sarah is also nominated this year, for adapted screenplay.), and totally deserves the win. However, we know that the Academy loves "real people" roles, so the winner may very well be the not petite Marion Cotillard.
