When we bought the house, the original color of the kitchen was that mauve color. Then we had the house painted City Lights cream color just to get it all one color and clean looking. 
Replaced the hanging box light with recessed lighting. Got rid of the old black colored appliances and replaced them with stainless. Between the stainless color and bad eye sight, I can hardly see the dust :)
