Saw this pattern and thought what a great idea. A quilted jacket with knitted sleeves. Combine the best of both my hobbies. Well in theory, it sounds good. But actually following this pattern was a pain. The directions for the knitted sleeves were wrong. After doing the top of the sleeve three times, I realized that it's not me, it's the pattern. I contacted the designer and asked her what it should be and was told she didn't do the sleeves. :( Lordy. The pattern called for you to use a sweateshirt one size up from what you normally wear. I normally wear a Large (12 to 14 ladies) so I played it safe and went up two sizes to a mens XXL. Well after constructing the quilted center out of lovely Moda fabrics, I could not get the fronts to meet (and trust me the girls are not that big). So I am now trying to figure out what to do with the too small quilted body and the sleeves. I decided to cut the sleeves off of an old denim jacket and put the knitted sleeves into it. If it's horrible, it's not a big deal, I never wore the jacket much anyway. Here are the sleeves. Knitted with two strands of yarn together. I used one cotton yarn mixed with an acryllic blend. Lesson learned: I could write patterns.
I will post pictures of the completed jacket. Besides adding the sleeves, I'm going to have to do something else to the denim part so that it looks like it should go with the sleeves. Maybe use some of the left over fabric from the piecing of the center of the too small jacket. Might turn that into a vest of some kind for some undeveloped 12 yr. old girl :) Who knows? I really loved the fabric I used for the center. It was all soft pastel florals. Maybe I'll take a picture of that tomorrow and someone could make a few suggestions.
