According to a This is London article dated October 18 of this year and one from the Telegraph.co.uk (also October 18), men under 5'4" and women under 5' report poorer mental and physical health than those of "average height." (I guess average height in this case include women between 5' even and 5'4" and men who're 5'4" to 5'9". ) This is likely because, according to the article, shorter people "experience more difficulties in areas of their life such as education, employment and relationships than people of a normal height." The articles also say that shorter people would have a higher health rating (approximately 6%!) if they were just 2.5-3" taller. Do you think this is true? Do you think short people are making themselves sick, or do you think it's society, pretty much worship and reward the tall, is doing this?
I do find it interesting that they didn't mention differences between shorter women and shorter men. I'd guess that shorter guys face even more issues than us gals, because men are SUPPOSED to be taller. While yes, tall women earn more money than shorter women (and in the UK, about £2,000 (approximately $4,000) more), shorter women still have a better chance in love than their male counterparts. Studies have shown that petite women are more likely to be in a long-term relationship by the age of 42 than taller women. However, short guys are often seen as "short men were less mature, less positive, less secure, less masculine, less successful, less capable, less confident, less outgoing, more inhibited, more timid and more passive" according to a 1987 study. And like short women, short guys earn less and are less likely to hold top positions at a company (I personally think this partly has to do with how short people present themselves. If clothes don't fit you properly, you just don't look as "serious.") I also think one's poor physical health is related to one's porer mental health. If you're confident about yourself, you will be happier, work out more, and eat healthier meals. And by doing these things, you'll feel much, much better. Maybe short people can prove these studies wrong.
