Sometimes, our worst enemies are ourselves

I recently posted a thread at The Fashion Spot asking readers which stores they'd like to see non-standard sizes. While I've had some legitmate answers (as in "I'd like to see more specialty sizes at such and such a place"), a few have been more along the lines of "why don't you just alter it?" Most have been from the same poster name, softgrey, who is apparently petite (she does say that she has "dealt with it all [her] life"...another poster said that she's around 5'4"). Another thing she said about alterations: "you will always have the best fit if you do it this way..." Really, softgrey? Since when? Unless you're willing to shell out a whole lot of money to get an outfit reconstructed, you're seriously not going to have the "best fit." I *do* know that she's not the only petite who feels this way. There are plenty of women who truly feel that alterations are better than buying petite. And this doesn't help the cause, does it (I think it may even confuse a few companies)? Have you had that kind of experience? Have you, as a petite woman, been told that alterations are the best option? Do you agree with softgrey that alterations are better than buying petite?

I do agree with her that petite sizes aren't always profitable. But that's because many are just plain ugly (and we don't like ugly). I don't think companies do enough research (if they do research at all).

At least softgrey hasn't called me a "crazy fanatic" yet.
