I came across an article in Marie Claire a few years ago about leg lengthening surgery. This painful process can extend legs up to three inches, though the recovery period can take up to a year, and there are plenty of complications. There are several processes that can lengthen the bone, and processes can be found in the Wikipedia article. Usually, it involves breaking the bone in two or more pieces and then inserting some sort of device which can lengthen the bone. This type of surgery was popular in China as having a height requirement seems to be the only way to weed out the large number of applicants, according to a Time article from 2001. This procedure has since been banned (in North America, this process is only available for medical reasons, so petite people who want to be tall would not be able to do it). Would I go through a procedure like this? No thanks! I might have more choice if I were taller, but doing this procedure would just mean that I'm giving in, right? Besides, you can only gain like three inches at most, which means that I'd still not be supermodel tall.
What about you? Would you, if you could, go through this painful procedure?
